Crew Opens Spring Campaign at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Mount Holyoke College crew team opened its spring season on Saturday, competing at 14th-ranked Washington College on the Chester River. Fifth-ranked Wellesley also competed at the regatta.

Wellesley swept all four of the regatta's races.  The varsity eight was the closest race as the Blue won in 7:18.27 to the Shorewomen's 7:23.78. Mount Holyoke was third in 8:09.65. Wellesley took the second varsity eight in 7:58.25 to Washington's 8:15.52 and Mount Holyoke's 8:40.00.

The Blue also won the third varsity eight in 8:34.75 to Mount Holyoke's 8:19.19 and captured the novice eight in 8:11.27 to Mount Holyoke's 8:49.12. Washington's novice four raced against the other schools' novice eights and finished in 10:03.84.

Conditions were sunny, but cold. The novices rowed in little to no wind, but a breeze built throughout the rest of the regatta.

The Lyons return to action next Saturday when it hosts Bryant College on the Connecticut River.
