WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke College finished fourth among 12 teams at the NEWMAC Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday at Wellesley College, placing in the top third of the conference with all of its top five runners among the top 47 scorers.
With 168 points, Mount Holyoke finished only behind No. 1 nationally ranked MIT (16), No. 30 Coast Guard (65) and Smith (95), while scoring ahead of eight other conference rivals: Wellesley (176), Springfield (203), Babson (207), Clark (208), Salve Regina (237), WPI (258), Emerson (265), and Wheaton (267).
Senior Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) placed 28th among 123 competitors, 23rd in team scoring, completing the 6-kilometer course at Nehoiden Golf Course in 23:18.5, a 6:14.9 pace.
A trio of senior classmates finished close behind, with Elizabeth Gerbi (Orono, Maine) in 33rd (23:38.3), Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) in 37th (23:52.5), and Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) in 44th (24:17.2). Sophomore Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.) placed 47th in the scoring and 59th overall in 24:51.0. Scoring displacers for the Lyons were sophomore Dalia Luckhardt (Cerritos, Calif.) in 78th place overall (25:52.5) and junior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) in 83rd (26:03.0). First-years Megan Gerbi (Orono, Maine) and Katherine Herring (Lebanon, N.H.) took the next two spots after Earle.
The Lyons will return to Harkness State Park in Waterford, Conn., on Nov. 16 for the NCAA Mideast Regionals at 11am.
