Cross country places 4th among 30 Division III teams at UMass-Dartmouth invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College cross country team placed fourth among 30 Division III teams and 15th overall at the multi-divisional UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday in rainy and muddy conditions.

With 508 points, Mount Holyoke outscored such teams as Brandeis (528), Trinity (532), Adelphi (561), Coast Guard (562) and Springfield (564). Only Connecticut College (159), Keene State (362) and Westfield State (490) outscored the Lyons among Division III teams. Division I Brown University (39), Northeastern (44) and Rhode Island (139) were the top three.

Senior Tessa Lancaster (Mansfield, Mass.) ran the 5-kilometer course in 19:16.25, 13th fastest among DIII runners and 55th out of 346 overall, to lead Mount Holyoke.

Senior Elizabeth Gerbi (Orono, Maine) took 71st place overall in 19:30.16. Third for Mount Holyoke and 90th overall was senior Kim Beaver (Agawam, Mass.) in 19:42.35. Senior Greta Trapp (La Crosse, Wis.) and sophomore Dalia Luckhardt (Cerritos, Calif.) rounded out Mount Holyoke's five scorers in 145th (20:23.78) and 181st (20:58.40), respectively. Sophomore Anjali Phadnis (San Marcos, Calif.) was the Lyons' lone displacer in 191st (21:05.31).

Mount Holyoke also raced five runners in the 5K junior varsity race, placing 12th out of 15 teams and fourth out of seven DIII teams.

First-year Megan Gerbi (Orono, Maine) led the Lyons in the JV race, finishing 54th out of 174 runners in 21:23.71. Junior Katie Earle (East Kingston, N.H.) finished 73rd in 21:55.14, followed by junior Maya Evans (Topsfield, Mass.) in 77th (22:05.64), sophomore Anita Konopka (Rolling Meadows, Ill.) in 87th (22:25.44), and first-year Katherine Herring (Lebanon, N.H.) in 88th (22:25.95).

The Lyons next race at the Keene State Invitational in Keene, N.H., Oct. 5 at 11am.
