• 2010-11 Outdoor Track and Field Year in Review

    With 25th year head coach Christina Lee leading the way, the Mount Holyoke outdoor track and field team took part in six meets in the spring of 2011. The Lyons earned the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award for the third time in program history. Senior Jacinta Edebeli set the tone for the team with her outstanding all-around results.

    Prior to the annual athletics awards celebration last Thursday, 24 Mount Holyoke seniors representing 12 teams were honored as part of the College's third annual Scholar Athlete Reception. The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.

    The Mount Holyoke Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Volleyball player Kara Neidhardt served as the event’s emcee. Rider Lindsay Sceats earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.
  • NEWMAC Announces Spring Academic All-Conference Squads

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2011 Spring Academic All-Conference Teams. Twenty Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of crew, track and field and lacrosse.
  • Track and Field Team Claims NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award For Third Time

    For the third time in five years, Mount Holyoke has earned the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award. The league office recently announced all of its postseason award winners for the 2011 season. Mount Holyoke also received the Sportsmanship Award in 2007 and 2009. Senior Jacinta Edebeli was named to the All-Conference First Team after winning the shot put.
  • Jacinta Edebeli Picks Up Lyon of the Week Award

    Track and field team member Jacinta Edebeli has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of April 18-24 after her outstanding performance in the heptathlon at the Aloha Relays over the weekend. The senior racked up 3,400 points on her way to a second place finish in the seven event competition.

    A total of nine Lyons earned points this weekend at Bowdoin College’s Aloha Relays. Mount Holyoke took sixth place overall with their score of 24 points. In addition, senior Jacinta Edebeli grabbed second place in the heptathlon.

    Sophomore track and field team member Angelica Pascual has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of April 11-17 after her impressive performance at the Eastern Connecticut State Invitational on Friday. Her most impressive performance came in the 200-meter dash, where she claimed top honors with a time of 27.89.

    Mount Holyoke took part in the fourth annual Eastern Connecticut State Invitational today at the Mansfield Athletic Complex. Sophomore Angelica Pascual took home top honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.89, while first year Julianna Dahbura won the long jump with a distance of 4.74 meters.

    Mount Holyoke competed in the annual George Davis Invitational today at UMass Lowell. A total of 23 teams from around the region participated in the non-scoring competition. Sophomore Angelica Pascual highlighted the day for the Lyons with her ninth place finish in the 100-meter dash.

    Hundreds of Mount Holyoke athletes gathered on Skinner Green this afternoon for a flash mob to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day. Members of both varsity and club sports participated in the event, which was designed to showcase the unity that exists among athletes across campus.
  • Snow Causes Cancellation of Pioneer Valley Invitational

    Tomorrow's Pioneer Valley Track and Field Invitational has been cancelled due to the snowstorm that blanketed much of New England yesterday. The meet, which was slated to take place at Smith, will not be rescheduled. Mount Holyoke will be off until next Saturday, when it competes in the George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell.

  • Outdoor Track & Field Opens Season at Jerry Gravel Classic

    Mount Holyoke kicked off its 2011 slate at with a 14th place finish at the Jerry Gravel Classic today. Senior Jacinta Edebeli recorded points in the 200-meter dash (fifth), the 100-meter dash (sixth) and the javelin (seventh). Junior Bree Hollinger grabbed third place in the high jump, while sophomore Maddie Ballon took eighth in the pole vault.
  • Mount Holyoke Named a 2011 Best Value College

    Mount Holyoke is once again one of the nation's 50 "Best Value" private colleges and universities, according to the Princeton Review. The educational services company teamed with USA Today to present the list of "The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges for 2011" on February 22. The list features 100 schools in all - 50 private and 50 public colleges and universities.

    Jacinta Edebeli led Mount Holyoke to a 22nd place finish at the New England Division III Championships today. In addition to grabbing eighth place with a toss of 11.75 meters in the shot put, the senior competed in three other events.

    Jacinta Edebeli enjoyed another outstanding day for Mount Holyoke at the MIT Coed Invitational. In addition to grabbing first place in the 55-meter dash, she also qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships with her winning time in the 200-meter dash (27.38). The senior added a second place result in the shot put (10.87 meters).

In addition to tying her school record with her height of 2.75 meters, she also qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships.
