THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke puts the finishing touches on its home slate with a NEWMAC contest against Babson College Saturday afternoon (12:00 p.m.) at the Turf Field. After edging the Beavers 14-13 in the opening round of the 2003 NEWMAC Tournament, the Lyons have fallen in each of the previous eight meetings between the schools. They suffered a 17-6 setback last season despite a goal and two assists from Liz Randolph. Taylor Kralovenec set the tone for Babson with three goals and three assists. Mount Holyoke needs to win one of its final two league games to keep its postseason hopes alive.
SENIOR DAY: Prior to the game, a senior day celebration will take place to honor Elizabeth Holsing, Jeanmarie Petersen, Jacinta Edebeli, Alex Crean and Hilary Bombard for their contributions to the program over the last four seasons.
THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (5-6, 1-3 NEWMAC) has dropped five of its last six games after starting the year with an overall record of 4-1. Attacker Kirsten Kilburn has set the tone for the Lyons with her outstanding all-around play. In addition to piling up 30 points on 27 goals and three assists, the rookie has also chipped in with 44 draw controls, nine caused turnovers and 12 ground balls. She has received help up front by attacker Molly Macdonald, who has poured in a team-best 30 goals. Midfielder Brianne Phelan has added 18 goals and six assists, while attacker Liz Randolph has found the back of the net 13 times to go with nine assists and 38 draw controls. On the defensive end, Annabel Barrett has amassed 13 caused turnovers and 35 ground balls. Liz Malenfant and Jamie Theophilos has split time between the pipes for the Lyons, stopping 106 shots.
THE BEAVERS: Babson (8-2, 3-0 NEWMAC) has rolled to eight straight victories and is currently undefeated in league play. The Beavers have been paced by attacker Jameson Spang, who has piled up 37 goals to go with 26 draw controls, 19 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Midfielder Misha Beatty has found the back of the net 40 times. Meanwhile, fellow midfielder Trisha Babson has accounted for 13 goals, 23 assists and 67 draw controls. Attackers Colleen Mulligan and Taylor Kralovenec have chipped in with 24 and 14 tallies, respectively. Julie Baharestani has been Babson's featured goalkeeper. In 600 minutes played, she has amassed 72 saves en route to a goals against average of 9.40.
NEXT UP: Mount Holyoke will return to action on Thursday, when it visits Bridgewater State University for a non-conference game beginning at 6:00 p.m. Meanwhile, Babson will continue its NEWMAC schedule at MIT on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
