BABSON PARK, Mass. (May 4, 2011) – Mount Holyoke College senior defender Bianca Young has been named to the NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse All-Conference First Team after her outstanding play during the 2011 season. The league unveiled its award winners on Tuesday.
Young anchored Mount Holyoke's defense, piling up team highs of 28 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers. In addition to scoring goals against Concordia University (3/15) and Eastern Connecticut State University (3/30), the captain also chipped in with an assist against Smith College (4/12). Her five caused turnovers against Springfield College were a career high (4/23).
Over the course of her career, Young collected 101 ground balls and 73 caused turnovers while starting all 63 games for the Lyons. Young also scored three times, dished out three assists and pulled in 25 draw controls.
She was at her best during her junior season, when she helped Mount Holyoke reach the championship game of the ECAC Tournament. At the conclusion of the year, she was selected to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team and the IWLCA All-Region Second Team. She was a NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team honoree in each of her final three seasons.
Midfielder Jackie Moscardelli was named NEWMAC Player of the Year after leading Springfield to the regular season title. Meanwhile, Wellesley College attacker Brit Mscisz picked up NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors, and Springfield's Kristen Mulladay was voted as the league's Coach of the Year. Smith received the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award.
Mount Holyoke closed out its 2011 campaign with an overall record of 5-9 and a league mark of 2-4.
