Golf Kicks Off Spring Slate With Dominant Performance in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (March 18, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College golf team kicked off the spring portion of its schedule with a dominant performance today at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Led by first year Madi Mendiola and junior Felicitas Gerlach, the Lyons took first place in a tri-match against William Smith College and Sewanee University.

Mendiola finished in second place overall with a score of 84. She was narrowly edged out by Sewanee's Jenna King, who fired an 82 to secure medalist honors. Gerlach carded a 97 to take third place, while first year Hannah Falvey grabbed fifth place with a score of 100.

The competition took place on the Norman Course at Barefoot (par 72 – 5,818 yards). Mount Holyoke cruised to the team title with a score of 401. Meanwhile, William Smith took second (432), and Sewanee finished third (439).

The Lyons are slated to take part in the Vassar College Invitational from April 14-15.
