Mendiola Leads Golf With Fifth Place Finish at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (Oct. 9, 2011) –Led by first year by Madi Mendiola, the Mount Holyoke College golf team grabbed ninth place at the Williams College Fall Classic this weekend. A total of 11 teams and 56 individuals competed in the tournament, which was hosted by the Taconic Golf Club (par 71 – 5,826 yards).

Mendiola took home fifth place overall with her two-day score of 160 (81, 79). The Lyons also received solid production from first year Rebecca Berger, who recorded a score of 193 (94, 99) to take 39th place. Classmate Hannah Falvey earned 45th place with her total of 204 (102, 202).

Williams cruised to the team title with a score of 646. The Ephs were followed in the top three by Middlebury College (665) and Amherst College (691). Mount Holyoke's team score was 779.

Middlebury's Flora Weeks secured medalist honors with a two-day tally of 151 (76, 75).

Mount Holyoke will close out its fall slate at the Wellesley College Fall Invitational next weekend. The event will begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
