Cross Country Rounds Out 2010 Campaign at NCAA Regional Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (Nov. 13, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College cross country team rounded outs its 2010 campaign with a 28th place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship today. A total of 336 runners from 51 teams competed in the event, which took place at Mount Greylock High School.

Senior Rebecca Engell wrapped up her career with a personal best time on the six meter course. She crossed the line in 24:24 to secure 72nd place overall. The Lyons also received solid production from first year Lucia Garcia, who took 114th place with a time of 25:20. Meanwhile, sophomore Elizabeth MacLauchlan chipped in with a 163rd place performance (26:05).

Middlebury College claimed the New England Regional title with 58 points. Four Panthers placed in the top 15 overall. Host Williams College (91) and Amherst College (103) rounded out the top three. Mount Holyoke ended the day with 766 points.

Jennifer Gossels of the Williams won the individual championship with a time of 21:42. She was followed by Paige Mills of Keene State College (21:49) and Ali Simeone of Amherst (22:16).
