Cross Country Races at New England Championship

<a href= BOSTON, Mass. (Oct. 9, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College cross country team posted a 44th place finish at the 2010 New England Cross Country Championship today in Boston, Massachusetts. A total of 322 runners from 47 teams competed in the event, which took place at Franklin Park.

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was senior Rebecca Engell, who completed the 5,000 meter course in 20:17 to secure 189th place. The Lyons also received a boost from first year Lucia Garcia, who crossed the line in 21:10 to take 248th place. Senior Hannah DiCocco added a 266th place result (21:45).

Boston College (26) dominated the field en route to claiming the team title. The University of Connecticut (116) and Middlebury College (163) rounded out the top three. Mount Holyoke totaled 1,266 points.

In the individual competition, Corey Conner of the University of Maine claimed top honors with a time of 16:54. She finished just in front of four Boston College runners.

The Lyons are scheduled to compete in the Seven Sisters Championship next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Vassar College will host the annual event.
