Cross Country Takes Part in UMass Dartmouth Invitational

Lucia Garcia NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. (Sept. 18, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women's cross country team competed in the 38th annual University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Invitational today in North Dartmouth, Mass. A total of 40 teams and 290 individuals participated in the 5,000 meter race.

Leading the way for the Lyons was first year Lucia Garcia, who collected 76th place with a time of 20:04. Sophomore Elizabeth MacLauchlan crossed the line in 20:41 to take 119th place, while senior Hannah DiCocco took 164th place with a time of 21:16. Fellow senior Emma Angus also took part in the varsity race. She secured 187th place with a time of 21:40.

The competition also featured a sub-varsity event in which first year Casey McClellan recorded 56th place (21:18), and sophomore Allegra Pellerano grabbed 89th place (22:08).

Wellesley took home top team honors with a score of 41. Meanwhile, MIT (45) and Keene State College (93) rounded out the top three. Mount Holyoke did not earn a team score.

In the individual competition, the top three were Keene State's Paige Mills (17:34), Wellesley's Randelle Boots (17:53) and Kate Warwick (17:57) of Brandeis.

Mount Holyoke will return to action next Saturday at the Williams College Purple Valley Classic. The meet is slated to begin at 12:45 p.m.
