Track & Field Finishes 8th at NEWMAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Apr. 27, 2013) - The Mount Holyoke College track & field team saw a number of strong performances on Saturday as the Lyons finished eighth overall at the 2013 NEWMAC Championships, hosted by Springfield. Leading the way was first year Camille Coklow, who had a record setting day in the 100-meter dash.

Coklow posted a time of 12.20 in the 100-dash, finishing second overall in the event. Her time eclipsed the MHC school record, which has been held since 1993 by Cheryl Daley - Mount Holyoke's first-ever All-American in track & field.

Coklow also had a solid effort in the 200-meter dash, placing third overall with a mark of 26.00. Additionally, she helped the 4x100 relay team to sixth overall in a time of 51.07. Other members of the relay included senior captain Maddie Ballon, senior Bree Ligon-Hollinger and sophomore Amber Legare.

Also performing well in the track events was sophomore captain Dana Fry, who placed ninth overall in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:20.50. First year Molly Sagar was 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:14.19, while junior LuAnne Jessop (pictured) placed eighth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:55.78.

In the field events, Ligon-Hollinger was seventh in the high jump with a height of 1.50 meters, while Ballon placed ninth in the pole vault, clearing 2.60 meters.

Senior Connie Ward was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 10.60 meters, while sophomore Jennie Ochterski was ninth in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.95 meters.

MIT won this year's NEWMAC Championship with 228.50 points. Wheaton was second with 153 points, while the host Pride rounded out the women's top three with 102.50 points.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next Friday and Saturday when it competes at the New England Division III Championships.
