Track & Field Competes at Dartmouth & Springfield

HANOVER, N.H. & SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Feb. 2, 2013) - The Mount Holyoke College track & field team had a busy day as the squad split to compete in two different meets on Saturday afternoon. A small group headed to the Springfield College Indoor Meet, while the other portion of the squad competed at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic. The Lyons saw a number of outstanding performances in both locations, including a win by senior Connie Ward in the shot put at Springfield.

Ward (Troy, N.Y./Emma Willard) recorded a seasons best mark of 10.12 meters to win the shot put event. Sophomore Reggie Crawford (Dorchester, Mass. / Fenway HS) also finished well in the event, placing sixth overall with a mark of 9.44 meters.

Lyons high jumper Bree Ligon-Hollinger also had a solid outing, finishing fourth overall in her event with a height of 1.42 meters. As a team, MHC was ninth overall at the Springfield meet.

At Dartmouth, which was a multi-divisional meet, it was a pair of first years who had standout performances. Camille Coklow (Chicago, Ill./The Latin School of Chicago) posted a time of 26.64 to finish third overall in the 200-meter dash. That mark was also an ECAC Qualifying time. She also placed eighth in the long jump with a distance of 4.31 meters.

Fellow rookie Elizabeth DeLeon (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) finished 16th in the 800-meter run with a New England DIII Championship qualifying time of 2:26.80. Senior Jenna Slipke (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central) finished 11th in the 1000-meter run with a time of 3:12.24.

Both DeLeon and Slipke, along with senior Phoebe Tengdin (Hanover, N.H./Hanover) and junior Naomi Miller (Augusta, Maine/Cony) combined to finish sixth overall in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:31.25.

Rounding out the solid performances was sophomore Nina Marciano (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional), who was fifth overall in the 400-meter run with a mark of 1:03.13.

The Lyons return to action next Saturday when they travel to MIT to compete in the MIT Coed Invitational.
