Indoor Track and Field Places at New England Division III Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Feb. 19, 2011) – Jacinta Edebeli led Mount Holyoke College to a 22nd place finish at the New England Division III Championships today. In addition to earning All-Region honors with her eighth place toss of 11.75 meters in the shot put, the senior competed in three other events.

Williams College took home the team title with a score of 141. The Ephs were followed by MIT (137) and Tufts University (78). Middlebury College (70) and Bowdoin College (66) rounded out the top five.

With her eighth place finish in the shot put, Edebeli accounted for Mount Holyoke's lone point. She secured 16th place with a personal best time of 27.35 in the 200-meter dash, and also finished fifth in her preliminary heat of the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.63. Edebeli joined forces with first year Bianca Routt, sophomore Maddie Ballon and junior Gizelle Fletcher to take 15th place in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:54.21.

Ballon went on to compete in the pole vault. Meanwhile, senior Hannah DiCocco, first year Kate Brackett, junior Felicia Cordeiro and sophomore Elizabeth MacLauchlan crossed the line in 13:55.92 to collect 15th place in the distance medley relay.

With the New England Division III Championships now completed, Mount Holyoke's 2010-11 indoor season has officially come to a close. The Lyons are slated to open their outdoor season at Westfield State University's Jerry Gravel Classic on March 26 at 11:00 am.
