Indoor Track and Field Competes in Southern Maine Invitational

PORTLAND, Maine (Jan. 29, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College women's indoor track and field team participated in the University of Southern Maine Invitational in Portland, Maine this afternoon. Seven teams from around the region took part in the competition.

Jacinta Edebeli Springfield College amassed 197 points en route to the team title. The Pride were followed by Southern Maine (175) Bates College (134) in the top three. Rounding out the field were Smith College (61), Emmanuel College (40), Mount Holyoke (24) and Gordon College (10).

A total of seven Lyons earned points. Leading the way was Jacinta Edebeli, who grabbed second place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.66 and sixth place in the shot put with a toss of 10.58 meters. The senior also teamed with sophomore Maddie Ballon, first year Bianca Routt and junior Gizelle Fletcher to take fifth place in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:57.24.

Ballon recorded a height of 2.62 meters to earn fifth place in the pole vault. Meanwhile, first year Maeve Stier finished in a deadlock for fifth place with her height of 1.47 meters in the high jump.

Mount Holyoke's remaining points came from senior Hannah DiCocco and first year Andrea Trinkle, who each recorded eighth place finishes. DiCocco completed the 3,000-meter run in 12:18.44, while Trinkle registered a distance of 8.88 meters in the triple jump.

The Lyons will return to action next Saturday, when they take part in the Smith College Tartan Invitational.
