Indoor Track and Field's Jacinta Edebeli Tabbed as Lyon of the Week

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Feb. 8, 2011) – Jacinta Edebeli has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of January 31 - February 6 after leading the indoor track and field team to a fourth place finish at the Smith College Tartan Invitational on Saturday. The senior figured in on 20 points and qualified for the New England Division III New England Regional Championships in a pair of events.

Edebeli was at her best in the shot put, where she grabbed second place with a toss of 10.83 meters. She also netted fifth place with a time of 27.80 in the 200-meter dash. As a result, she made herself eligible for the NCAA Regional Championships in both events.

The senior opened her day with a second place finish in the 4x200-meter relay. Her teammates for the race were first year Bianca Routt, sophomore Maddie Ballon and junior Gizelle Fletcher. The quartet posted a time of 1:56.06.

A total of 11 teams from around the region took part in the annual competition. Mount Holyoke's 48 points were good for fourth place overall. Twelve Lyons contributed to the team's overall point total.

Edebeli had previously qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the 55-meter dash.

Mount Holyoke will return to action next Saturday at the MIT Coed Invitational. The meet is slated to get underway at noon.
