#26 Squash Falls to #15 Bates, 9-0

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Bates College women's squash team bested Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Lyons by a 9-0 margin at the MHC Squash Courts. The Bobcats, who are ranked #15 in the CSA Women's Poll, improve to 4-4 on the year, while the 26th-ranked Lyons slip to 4-5 on the season.

Bates dominated from top to bottom as senior Nessrine Ariffin (Penang, Malaysia/Bukit Jalil) defeated MHC first year Brandy Williamson (New York, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy) by an 11-3, 11-4, 11-6 margin in the first position. Senior Samantha Rosado (Meriden, Conn./F.T. Maloney) had a valiant effort in the second spot for MHC, but fell, 11-9, 11-5, 11-3, to senior Myriam Kelly (Bronx, N.Y./Westover School).

Senior Lesea Bourke (Greenwich, Conn./Kent School) was a winner at three over Lyons' sophomore Sanjna Merchant (Mumbai, India/Jai Hind College), 11-4, 11-4, 11-5, while sophomore Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) shouldered an 11-3, 11-5, 11-3 loss to Bates' senior Chloe Mitchell (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) at four.

In the middle part of the ladder, Mount Holyoke senior Xianger Fei (Hangzhou, China/Hangzhou Foreign Language School) battled with sophomore Emma Dunn (Bellevue, Wash./Pomfret School), but could not get the win, falling 11-2, 13-11, 11-6.

Sophomore Amanda Lee (Windsor, Conn./Ethel Walker School) was the lone Lyon to push it to four games, taking on senior Emma Korein (Rydal, Pa./Springside School) in the eighth spot. Lee won the first game by an 11-6 margin, but could not hold on as Korein rebounded for wins of 11-3, 11-5, 11-5 to take the victory.

The Lyons return to action on Sunday, traveling to Middlebury for a 2pm contest against the Panthers. Bates is in action later this afternoon with a 5pm match at Amherst.
