CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - First year Emily Chang posted a 3-0 effort on the afternoon to lead the Mount Holyoke College squash team to second overall at the 2015 Seven Sisters Championship, hosted by Wellesley College at the Harvard University courts. The Lyons, who are now 6-15 on the season, posted a 2-1 record on the day, defeating Smith and Vassar, before falling to the host Blue.
In an 8-1 win against Smith to open the day, MHC saw Chang post an 11-5, 11-8, 11-5 win over Leah Jeon. She also went on to defeat Vassar's Steph Zhu, 11-5, 11-4, 11-2. In addition to Chang, the Lyons also saw senior Samantha Rosado (2nd flight), sophomores Sanjna Merchant (3rd flight) and Allison Shilling (4th flight), senior Xianger Fei (5th flight), juniors Catherine Ryan (6th flight) and Anna Hartman (8th flight), along with sophomore Amanda Lee (9th flight), all go 2-1 at this year's championships with victories against Smith and Vassar.
Against Wellesley in the final and title deciding match of the day, Chang gutted out an 11-9, 11-5, 8-11, 11-6 win against Ruby Feng at seven, while first year Brandy Williamson battled back from a pair of tough losses to defeat Sarah Zhang in the first position, 11-5, 11-9, 11-4.
The Lyons return to Cambridge next weekend when they compete at the 2015 CSA National Team Championships. Action begins on Friday and runs through Sunday. Pairings and flights for all teams will be announced early next week.
