CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Following a downpour that lasted the entire second half, MIT women's soccer shut out Mount Holyoke, 3-0, at home on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers are now 9-2-1 for the season and remain undefeated in conference play (4-0), while the Lyons fell to 2-8-1.

In the first period, MIT outshot Mount Holyoke, 13-2, starting the game aggressively when a ball shot by senior Emily Kuo had to be saved by keeper Mackenzie Randall in the third minute of play. The Engineers continued to fight, forcing Randall to save three more shots before MIT scored its first goal when junior Samantha Fleischmann netted the ball off a penalty kick in the 40th minute. Mount Holyoke's best chance at a goal came at the 34 minute mark when Ali Rossi shot and hit the post just out of reach of the hands of senior goalie Meghan Wright.

Just two minutes later, sophomore Ambika Krishnamachar scored MIT's second goal when she swept past the defenders and sank the ball in the far right side of the net. The Lyons also received a penalty kick, but the ball went just wide of the net and the period ended with MIT ahead, 2-0.

With the rain beating down on the players, the second period commenced with little action from either team until the 79th minute when freshman Amma Okwara scored the first goal of her collegiate career, increasing MIT's lead over the Lyons. With little time remaining to close the gap, the second half ended with the Engineers defeating Mount Holyoke, 3-0.

MIT will take a break from conference play when they travel to Bangor, Maine to face Husson on Tuesday, Oct. 9, while the Lyons will host Connecticut College the following day at 4:30pm.
