Soccer Blanked On The Road By #7 Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. (Sept. 12, 2012) - Amherst College tallied three goals in the opening half and continued its offensive assault in the second half as the seventh-ranked Lord Jeffs blanked Mount Holyoke College, 9-0 on Wednesday evening. It was the first contest of the season for Amherst, which is now 1-0. The Lyons slip to 0-3-1 on the young season.

The home team got things going early behind back-to-back goals from Chloe McKenzie, who tallied at 6:41 and 23:15 to make it a 2-0 advantage for Amherst. Kathryn Nathan, who finished with a game-best three assists, notched a goal of her own at 28:30 to give the Lord Jeffs a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Amherst came out determined in the second half of action as Emily Little scored just 4:03 into the frame off a corner by Nathan. McKenzie added her third tally of the game at 63:46 to make it a 5-0 lead and the Lord Jeffs rattled off four more tallies to close out the scoring.

In goal, Holly Burwick made one save to earn the victory over 68:19 played. Meghan Mills played 21:41 of relief and made no stops.

For Mount Holyoke, sophomore netminder Mackenzie Randall made 13 saves. Individually, senior captain Veronica Farmer had a team-best two shots.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they open their NEWMAC schedule at Smith College. Game time is set for 1pm.
