  • Lacrosse Team Claims IWLCA National Academic Squad Accolades

    The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association recently announced that the Mount Holyoke College lacrosse team earned Academic Squad honors for the 2010 season. Rachel Kurzweil, Peggy Wefald and Bianca Young were also named to the organization's Academic Honor Roll.

    The ascent of the Mount Holyoke lacrosse program continued in 2010, as third year head coach Miriam Esber guided her squad to an overall record of 11-7. Led by senior midfielders Peggy Wefald and Perry Markell, the Lyons advanced to the ECAC New England Championship.

    Senior Peggy Wefald has been selected to represent Mount Holyoke College at the 2010 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association/Under Armour North-South Senior All-Star Game. The midfielder was among the 41 players from around the nation to be chosen for the game.
  • Markell Named to ECAC All-Star Team

    Senior midfielder Perry Markell has been named to the ECAC Division III New England All-Star Second Team after helping the Lyons to their most wins in over 15 years. One of the Lyons top all around threats, she piled up 61 points on 49 goals and 12 assists in just 18 games played.
  • Pair of Lacrosse Players Claim All-Region Accolades

    Senior midfielder Peggy Wefald and senior defender Bianca Young have been named to the IWLCA All-Region Second Team after leading the Lyons to their most wins in over 15 years. The IWLCA honored 224 Division III players from around the nation. Thirty-two recipients were selected to represent the Berkshire Region.

    Junior attacker Clara Raugei racked up five goals and an assist in the Lyons heartbreaking loss. Senior midfielder Perry Markell added four goals. Senior midfielder Peggy Wefald added a hat trick and one assist.

    The Mount Holyoke College Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Squash Head Coach Allen Fitzsimmons served as the event’s emcee. Soccer team member Lauren Orr earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2010 Spring Academic All-Conference Teams. Eighteen Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of lacrosse, crew and track and field.
