White's big second quarter highlights Lyons' game at Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Sophomore Taryn White scored all of her team-high 13 points in the second quarter for the Mount Holyoke College basketball team, but Babson College maintained the lead it had built in the first quarter on the way to a 75-37 win in NEWMAC play on Wednesday night.

The host Beavers (12-12, 6-4 NEWMAC) snapped a two-game losing streak behind a game-high 15 points scored by Katelyn Mollica, all in the third quarter.

Chloe Perreault, Samantha Reale, and Emily Flynn combined to score 15 points as the Beavers built a 16-0 lead in the first quarter.

Camille Minor made a three-pointer 42 seconds into the second to make it 19-0, before White (Alexandria, Va.) got Mount Holyoke onto the scoreboard with a remarkable scoring flurry.

She made a pair of free throws with 8:56 to go in the period, beginning a personal 12-5 run against Babson over that drew the Lyons within 12 points (24-12) with 6:01 to go in the period. White made two jumpers, two layups and hit 4-of-4 free throws during the run.

White added a free throw later in the period for her 13th point. She tied with first-year Emma Goff (Cohasset, Mass.) for the team rebounding lead with six boards and dished out two assists. Junior Marley Berano (Lady Lake, Fla.) added 10 points for the Lyons (2-22, 0-10 NEWMAC).

Mount Holyoke will celebrate Senior Day and conclude the season on Saturday at 1pm against Coast Guard.
