SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Amanda Burns' goal in the eighth minute stood up for host Western New England University as the Golden Bears came away with a 1-0 non-conference victory over the Mount Holyoke College field hockey team on Tuesday night.

Mount Holyoke (8-10) battled hard throughout the game, and put consistent pressure on the WNE goal during the fourth quarter, but the Golden Bears (13-3) held on. Lyons junior Jayonna Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) was stopped from close distance by WNE goalie Ella Henry with 5:40 left in the game to earn the shutout.

WNE had a 15-4 advantage in shots, 12-1 in shots on goal, and a 13-2 edge in penalty corners.

Mount Holyoke junior goalie Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) spearheaded a strong Lyons defensive effort with 10 saves. First-year Linnea Alsted (Crownsville, Md.) also posted her sixth defensive save of the season, all occurring over the past four games.

The Lyons will play host to No. 2 nationally ranked Babson in their season finale on Saturday, Oct. 28 starting at 12pm.
