SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke junior Jayonna Montigny scored off a rebounded save with 7:43 remaining in sudden victory overtime, lifting the Lyons to a 3-2 NEWMAC victory over Springfield College on Tuesday night.

Mount Holyoke (8-5, 1-3 NEWMAC) was able to grab its first conference win of the season and to do it in overtime, three days after falling 1-0 in overtime to Clark.

Springfield (3-7, 0-4 NEWMAC) lost its fifth straight game and remained winless in NEWMAC play despite a 38-13 advantage in shots attempted, including a 24-7 edge in shots on goal. That included a dominating third quarter in which the Pride outshot the Lyons 20-1 and took a 2-1 lead early in the period.

Kaitlin Bardellini scored both goals for Springfield, tying the game 1-1 in the second quarter and giving the Pride a 2-1 lead in the third.

Mount Holyoke junior goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) made a career-high 21 saves, including 10 in the third quarter.

Jayonna Montigny gave the Lyons an early lead in the fifth minute of the game. After an entry pass into the circle was corralled by a Springfield defender, Montigny pried it away, turned and shot past Springfield goalie Neilee Hess for a 1-0 lead.

The Lyons held onto their lead for 24 minutes, until Bardellini was awarded a penalty stroke and scored with a shot inside the left post in the 29th minute.

The Pride took the 2-1 lead less than two minutes into the third quarter on a penalty corner, as Bardellini redirected a shot on goal by Molly Collins for her seventh goal of the year.

With just 3:38 remaining in regulation time, Mount Holyoke evened the game at 2-2 on junior defender Sophia Guziewicz's (Enfield, N.H.) third goal. An entry ball by first-year Linnea Alsted (Crownsville, Md.) on a penalty corner went straight to Guziewicz, who shot under Hess's pad and inside the left post to even the game at 2-2.

Bardellini took the first shot of overtime, one minute in, and was stopped by Katzenberg, then misfired a second shot on the rebound.

A minute later, sophomore Anna Induni (Manchester, N.H.) backed into the circle and scooped a shot into the air that Hess batted away for her fourth save. But the ball came out to Montigny, who flipped a second shot that glanced off a Springfield defender and made it between Hess and the right post, ending the game. The goal is Montigny's ninth of the season, tying graduate student Laurissa Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) for the team lead.

Mount Holyoke rises to 17-21-1 all-time against Springfield.

The Lyons next play at Smith College Saturday at 1pm, while Springfield will host Wellesley at the same time.
