WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College field hockey team outscored rival Wellesley 1-0 in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the host Blue's 3-0 halftime lead in a 3-1 NEWMAC loss for the Lyons on Friday night at Butler Stadium.

Wellesley (5-3, 2-0 NEWMAC) controlled the first quarter and ended the period with a 2-0 lead, after outshooting Mount Holyoke 7-1 in the period. Alex Butulis and Sara Maniscalco both scored for the Blue.

River Schiff added an unassisted score midway through the second quarter for a commanding 3-0 lead for Wellesley.

Mount Holyoke senior Laurissa Montigny (Enfield, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal with one second remaining in the third quarter to close the gap back to two goals. The goal was Montigny's team-high seventh of the season, and the 12th of her career.

Mount Holyoke outshot Wellesley by a slight 7-6 margin over the game's final three quarters, and a 3-0 edge in penalty corners in the fourth quarter had the Lyons finish with a 6-5 advantage in that category for the game.

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Katzenberg (Reisterstown, Md.) made seven saves in the loss for Mount Holyoke. Kyra Deehr-Lewis made four saves for Wellesley.

Mount Holyoke (5-4, 0-2 NEWMAC) will play at Elms College Tuesday at 7pm.
