Led by seventh-year head coach Sonnie Terrell, the Mount Holyoke College volleyball team posted a 4-22 record during the 2014 campaign. The Lyons also recorded a 1-9 mark in NEWMAC play.

The campaign began with a tough opening tri-match, but the Lyons rebounded in week two, posting a 3-1 win over the University of St. Joseph. Junior outside hitter Emma Sweeting paced the way in the win, notching 18 kills and 18 digs. A game later, the Lyons grabbed their second win, besting the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts by a 3-0 score. Senior defensive specialist Kaleen Iwema notched 13 digs in the victory and also became the first Mount Holyoke player in history to record 1,000 career digs.

Mount Holyoke faced a winless stretch following that match against the Trailblazers, suffering four losses at the 2014 Seven Sisters Championship at Vassar. Sweeting, who had a 42-kill and 34 dig performance during the tournament, was named to the All-Tournament Team for the second straight season. Sophomore setter Natalie Lyon was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Following the tournament, the Lyons suffered a tough span of NEWMAC losses before finally jumping back into the win column with a 3-1 victory over Elms at the Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium. Sweeting recorded 16 kills and 14 digs, while Iwema had 26 digs and three service aces.

Mount Holyoke concluded its 2014 season with a pair of NEWMAC games, splitting against Smith and WPI. The Lyons saw Sweeting post a game-high 21-kill effort to lead MHC past Smith, 3-0. It was the first win over the Pioneers since the 2011 campaign. First year outside hitter Katrina Meserve added eight kills and a squad-best 15 digs in the victory.

Individually, Sweeting paced the Lyons in kills, laying down 301 over 26 matches played. She also recorded 204 digs, 21 service aces and was second in blocks with 28. Among the NEWMAC's best, Sweeting was second in the conference in kills per set (3.63) and was also third in total attacks (961). Lyon boasted a team-best 349 assists, 29 service aces and 247 digs over a 26-game span, while Iwema recorded 96 kills with 237 digs and 19 aces in 24 contests.

Additionally, senior middle hitter Rebecca Bland finished second on the team with 117 kills, adding 19 service aces and a team-best 28 blocks, including 18 solo. She finished sixth in the NEWMAC in block solo for 2014.

Academically, the Lyons saw three student-athletes named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference squad, including Bland, sophomore defensive specialist Annakate Schatz and senior setter Stephany Yang.
