Soccer Falls to Babson in NEWMAC Road Action

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Jennifer Narlee (Medfield, Mass.) and sophomore Jessica Fernandes (Pawtucket, R.I.) scored six minutes apart early in the second half to help Babson College defeat visiting Mount Holyoke College, 2-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Babson, which is unbeaten in its last four matches, is now 3-1-2 overall and 1-0-0 in league play, while Mount Holyoke slips to 3-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the NEWMAC.

Narlee and juniors Colleen Beggan (Medfield, Mass.) and Kelsey Ford (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) each contributed an assist for the Beavers, who outshot the Lyons 20-1 on the afternoon.

The Green and White broke the scoreless deadlock on a set piece in the 51st minute. Narlee served a free kick into the box and Ford flicked it over a defender for Fernandes, who tucked her finish inside the right post from inside 10 yards for her second goal of the year.

Babson added to its lead in the 57th minute when Narlee beat Mount Holyoke senior goalkeeper Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ontario) to Beggan's corner kick at the edge of the six-yard box and headed it home for her second goal of the year.

The two-goal advantage was plenty for the Beavers, who finished with a 20-1 edge in shots. The Green and White also attempted all 11 of the corner kicks in the match.

Sophomore Maddison Gierschick (Hopkinton, Mass.) stopped one shot over the opening 45 minutes, while classmate Elizabeth Mycock (Windham, Maine) did not have to make a save in the second half for Babson. Marshall finished with five saves for the Lyons.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday as Babson hosts nationally-ranked Brandeis at 4 p.m., while Mount Holyoke takes on Albertus Magnus at 7 p.m.
