Soccer Tripped Up at MCLA, 2-0

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (Oct. 24, 2012) –Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) tallied two first-half goals enroute to a 2-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday. With the win, the Trailblazers move to 7-9 overall, while the Lyons slip to 2-12-2.

The homestanding Trailblazers open the scoring for the game as Janelle Stannard headed a shot in past the reach of Mount Holyoke netminder Mackenzie Randall off a corner kick from Lindsay Borbolla at 6:58.

Both teams had their chances, but late in the opening half, MCLA added to its lead as Keisha Devoe tallied with an assist going to Jennifer Ferrari at 39:39. The pair crashed the net on a 2-on-1 breakaway as Devoe eventually beat out the keeper and tapped it in.

The score remained the same in the second half of action, despite both teams having a number of chances to gain the upper hand.

For the game, the visiting Lyons held a 20-17 advantage in shots, including five apiece from Kiana Lussier and Ali Rossi, while MCLA had the edge in corner kicks, 5-4.

In goal, Trailblazers' Danielle Heinsohn made seven saves for the victory, while Randall stopped six shots in the loss.

MCLA concludes its regular season on Saturday, hosting Worcester State at 1pm. Mount Holyoke also wraps-up its regular season schedule on Saturday, welcoming Babson at 1pm.
