  • Jacinta Edebeli Picks Up Lyon of the Week Award

    Senior track and field team member Jacinta Edebeli has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of April 18-24 after her outstanding performance in the heptathlon at the Bowdoin College Aloha Relays over the weekend. Edebeli racked up 3,400 points on her way to a second place finish in the seven event competition. With her score, she qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship. The senior was just 58 points off the school record established by Carrie Turbin in 1995. She was at her best in the shot put, where she took home top honors with a toss of 28.40. In doing so, she made herself eligible for the NCAA Regional Championship in the event. Edebeli won the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.40 and also secured third place finishes in both the long jump (4.67 meters) and javelin (25.59 meters).
  • Lyon of the Week Award Goes to Angelica Pascual

    Sophomore track and field team member Angelica Pascual has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of April 11-17 after her impressive performance at the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational on Friday. Pascual took home top honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.89. Her outstanding day also included a second place finish in the 100-meter dash (13.35) and a fourth place result in the long jump (4.47 meters). The sophomore teamed up with Whitney Bailey, Kathleen O'Connor and Bianca Routt to collect second place in the 4x100-meter relay (54.14).
  • Naomi Miller Takes Home Lyon of the Week Accolades

    First year midfielder Naomi Miller has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of March 28 - April 3 after piling up a career best four goals in the lacrosse team's 15-12 triumph over MIT on Saturday. Mount Holyoke trailed 10-8 with just over 20 minutes remaining in regulation before Miller struck for back-to-back goals over a span of 11 seconds to knot things up. With momentum on their side, the Lyons tacked on three more unanswered goals to put things away. Senior midfielder Vika Planson provided the exclamation point with 11:49 remaining in regulation, when she scored off a nifty feed from Miller to complete her first career hat trick. Earlier in the week, Miller chipped in with an assist in the her team's 17-11 setback against Eastern Connecticut State University. In the two games, she totaled four goals, two assists and five draw controls.
  • Hilary Bombard Adds Lyon of the Week Award to Trophy Case

    Junior Hilary Bombard has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of March 14-20 after leading the lacrosse team to a perfect 2-0 mark during their spring break trip in Maryland. The attacker racked up five goals and two assists in wins over the University of New England and Concordia University. Bombard was also named NEWMAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the same time period. She was her best on Wednesday, when she scored a free position goal with three seconds remaining in regulation to boost the Lyons to a thrilling 11-10 triumph over New England. She finished the game with a career best five points on three goals and two assists. It was her first half trick of the year and sixth of her career. The captain found the back twice in a 14-0 victory over Concordia one day earlier. Both games took place at McDaniel College.
  • Rider Elizabeth Tripp Collects Lyon of the Week Accolades

    Elizabeth Tripp has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of February 21-27 after leading the riding team to a Reserve High Point Championship at the UMass Horse Show on Saturday. The senior finished the day as the High Point Rider for the first time in career. In addition to posting a first place finish in her section of the open fences division, Tripp also grabbed top honors in her class of the open flat division. By doing so, she qualified for the Zone 1, Region 3 Regional Championships in the open flat division. As a sophomore, she grabbed eighth place nationally in the intermediate flat division. During her junior season, Tripp was crowned champion of the open fences division at the Zone 1 Championships. She went on to represent the Lyons at the National Championships.
  • Basketball Player Angelica Pascual Secures Lyon of the Week Accolades

    Sophomore Angelica Pascual has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of February 7-13 after leading the basketball team to a dramatic 44-39 victory over MIT on Saturday. Trailing by 17 points with just over 13 minutes to go, Mount Holyoke staged a furious comeback to seal its fifth NEWMAC triumph of the season. Pascual drained three shots from beyond the arc during the run and finished with a game best 17 points. She also pulled down seven rebounds in the contest. Her back-to-back treys closed out the rally and put the Lyons in front 40-39. From there, senior guard Emilie Methot connected on four straight free throws over the final two minutes to ice things. Pascual scored 11 of her 17 points in the final 10 minutes. Earlier in the week, she recorded eight points and eight rebounds in a 47-26 loss at WPI.
  • Indoor Track and Field Team Member Jacinta Edebeli Tabbed as Lyon of the Week

    Jacinta Edebeli has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of January 31 - February 6 after leading the indoor track and field team to a fourth place finish at the Smith College Tartan Invitational on Saturday. The senior figured in on 20 points and qualified for the New England Division III New England Regional Championships in a pair of events. Edebeli was at her best in the shot put, where she grabbed second place with a toss of 10.83 meters. She also netted fifth place with a time of 27.80 in the 200-meter dash. As a result, she made herself eligible for the NCAA Regional Championships in both events. The senior opened her day with a second place finish in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:56.06.
  • Basketball Player Tricia Chase Grabs Lyon of the Week Accolades

    Junior basketball player Tricia Chase has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of January 24-30 after racking up 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week. The forward converted 46.2% (18-39) of her shots from the field and chipped in with four assists. Fifteen of her rebounds came at the offensive end of the floor. Chase posted a double-double on 10 points and 10 boards in Mount Holyoke's thrilling 48-46 overtime triumph over Wellesley College on Saturday. After sending the contest to overtime with a layup in the final minute of regulation, she sealed the win with a short jumper in the lane at the end of regulation. The forward was also outstanding in her team's 67-50 win over Johnson and Wales University on Monday. In addition to posting a career best 18 points, she hauled in 13 rebounds.
  • Madeline Magee Picks Up Lyon of the Week Honors

    Swimmer Madeline Magee has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of January 10-16 after leading her team to a pair of dual meet victories over the weekend. The sophomore led the Lyons to a 168-130 triumph over Clark University on Friday. In the process of winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.14), she established a new 50-yard breaststroke school record with her first split time of 32.48. Earlier in the day, she joined forces with Lauren Williams, Sin Seanne Ng and Lydia Bowers to grab second place in the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.52). Magee was at it again in Mount Holyoke's 175-119 win over Simmons College. In addition to grabbing first place in the 100-yard freestyle (58.95), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.80) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.58), she also secured first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.31) along with Williams, Bowers and Nora Cunningham.
  • Shaheen Madraswala Collects Lyon of the Week Accolades

    Squash player Shaheen Madraswala has been named Lyon of the Week for the week of November 29 - December 5 after leading Mount Holyoke to four shutout victories this weekend at the Wesleyan University Round Robin. The first year posted a perfect 4-0 record, dropping just 32 points in the process. She occupied the number three position in Mount Holyoke's 9-0 victories over Wellesley College and William Smith College on Saturday. One day later, she closed out the weekend at the number four slot in her team's shutout wins over Connecticut College and Wesleyan University. Over the first three weeks of her collegiate career, Madraswala has posted an overall record of 6-2. She is currently ranked 85th in the College Squash Association National Rankings. As a team, the Lyons are ranked 13th in the country.
  • Basketball Player Angelica Pascual Named Lyon of the Week

    Sophomore basketball player Angelica Pascual has been named Lyon of the Week for the week of November 15-21 after averaging 20.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game over her team's first three games. The guard was at her best on Saturday, when she exploded for a program record 37 points in Mount Holyoke's heartbreaking 62-60 loss to Agnes Scott in the opening game of the 2010 Seven Sisters Classic. She went 13-of-23 from the floor and knocked down a program record seven three-pointers in the contest. In addition, she was perfect in four chances at the free throw line and pulled down eight rebounds. One day later, Pascual cemented her spot on the All-Classic Team with 15 more points in her team's 54-51 triumph over Vassar. She also scored 10 points in the Lyons' 48-37 setback at WNEC on Tuesday.
  • Field Hockey Forward Shara Robertson Claims Lyon of the Week

    Junior field hockey player Shara Robertson has been named Lyon of the Week for the week of October 25-31 after recording hat tricks in wins over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Springfield College. The forward got her week going with three goals in Mount Holyoke's 4-2 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Wednesday. After pushing her team's lead to 2-0 in the early stages of the first half, she scored two more times in the second half to put things away. She recorded her second straight hat trick in Mount Holyoke's 4-1 victory over Springfield on Saturday. It was her fourth triple of the year and the sixth in her outstanding career. Robertson got the Lyons on the board 7:54 into the first half and then scored two more times to highlight their three goal eruption in the first 4:30 of the second stanza.
  • Field Hockey Goalkeeper Katie Gibson Named Lyon of the Week

    Field hockey goalkeeper Katie Gibson has been named Lyon of the Week for the week of October 11-17. The junior racked up 28 saves in a perfect 2-0 week for Mount Holyoke. Gibson turned away 13 shots in the Lyons' 3-0 victory over Castleton State College on Wednesday. In the process, she held the Spartans' explosive offense scoreless for the first this year. It was Gibson's fifth shutout of the year and 12th of her outstanding career. She was was at it again in Mount Holyoke's stunning 3-2 overtime triumph over MIT on Saturday, when she amassed a season best 15 saves. Of those, five came in overtime. With the win, the Lyons put an end to MIT's nine match winning streak. The Engineers entered the contest sitting atop the NEWMAC standings with a perfect 5-0 mark.
  • Rider Margaret Swanson Collects Lyon of the Week Honors

    Margaret Swanson has earned the Lyon of the Week Award for the week of October 4-10 after leading the riding team to a High Point Championship at the Smith College Intercollegiate Horse Show on Saturday. The junior not only finished the day as the High Point Rider, but she also claimed Intermediate High Point Rider accolades. As a team, Mount Holyoke took home 15 blue ribbons on its way to a perfect score of 49. It was the Lyons first regular season show of the 2010-11 campaign. In addition to posting a first place finish in her section of the intermediate fences division, Swanson also grabbed top honors in her class of the intermediate flat division. By doing so, she qualified for the Zone 1, Region 3 Regional Championships in the intermediate flat division and made herself eligible for the open division.
  • Tennis Player Maya Sayarath Snares Lyon of the Week Accolades

    Tennis team member Maya Sayarath has earned the Lyon of the Week Award for the week of September 27 - October 3. In three matches played, the first year went undefeated at singles and posted one doubles win. Sayarath and senior Elise Marifian led Mount Holyoke to a 7-2 triumph over Smith College on Tuesday. It was the team's second straight win over the Pioneers and their first of the 2010-11 campaign. After combining for an 8-2 victory at number three doubles, both players prevailed in their respective singles matches. Sayarath was nearly unstoppable in her number six match, winning by a score of 6-0, 6-2. The first year was at it again on Thursday, when she cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the number five singles position against Simmons College. She then closed out the week with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the number four slot against MIT.
  • Volleyball Setter Kateryna Kuc Takes Home Lyon of the Week Honors

    Senior volleyball team member Kateryna Kuc has been named Lyon of the Week for the week of September 20-26. The setter piled up 51 assists, 26 digs and 12 kills in a 2-1 week for Mount Holyoke. Kuc was at her best in the Lyons 3-0 victory over Elms College on Saturday, when she exploded for 20 assists, 18 digs and five kills. It was her fourth double-double of the season and 14th of her outstanding career. Later that day, the captain delivered 22 assists and six kills in Mount Holyoke's 3-0 win over Castleton State College. With her 42 assists on Saturday, Kuc became the fourth player in program history to reach 1,000 for her career. In 78 career matches played, she has amassed 1,036 career helpers. The setter has tallied 20 or more assists on 22 occasions. She has also recorded 92 service aces and 532 digs.
  • Lyon of the Week Award Goes to Shara Robertson

    Junior field hockey player Shara Robertson has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of September 13-19. The forward racked up four goals and one assist in a 1-1 week for Mount Holyoke. She figured in on all four goals in the Lyons 4-0 triumph over Smith College on Friday. In addition to posting her second hat trick of the season, she also posted an assist. Robertson's most dramatic goal of the week came in a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime setback against Wesleyan University on Wednesday. With her team trailing 2-1 and the clock expired, she found the back of the cage off of a penalty corner set to send things to overtime. Robertson has totaled seven goals and one assist thus far this season. She was also named NEWMAC Player of the Week for her efforts.
  • Martina Kneifel Takes Home Lyon of the Week Accolades

    First year Martina Kneifel has earned the Lyon of the Week award for the week of September 6-12 after pushing the volleyball team to a perfect 3-0 record. The outside hitter was dominant in her first week in a Mount Holyoke uniform, racking up 3.83 kills and 3.17 digs per set. She recorded nine service aces and a hitting percentage of .442. Kneifel made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut on Thursday, when she amassed 13 kills, 10 digs and four aces in a 3-0 win over Bay Path College. The rookie followed that with 10 kills, nine digs and five aces in the Lyons 3-0 triumph over St. Joseph College on Saturday. Later that day, she piled up 11 kills and 21 digs in her team's thrilling 3-2 victory over Daniel Webster College. In addition to earning Lyon of the Wee accolades, Kneifel was named NEWMAC Player of the Week.
