Cordeiro Paces Cross Country at Seven Sisters Championship

HAVERFORD, Pa. (Oct. 15, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College cross country team took part in the 30th annual Seven Sisters Championship today at Haverford College. Senior Felicia Cordeiro grabbed 22nd place with a time of 20:26.55 to set the tone for the Lyons.

Mount Holyoke also received a solid performance from Junior Phoebe Tengdin, who completed the 5,000 meter course in 20:51.05 to secure 34th place. She finished just in front of sophomore Lucia Garcia (38th place – 21:01.55) and first year Emily Baker (40th place – 21:09.24). The Lyons ended the day in seventh place with 158 points.

Vassar College cruised to its second straight team title with a 33-point effort. The Brewers were followed by Wellesley College (59), Swarthmore College (86), Smith College (115), St. Catherine University (123), Bryn Mawr College (140) and Mount Holyoke.

Wellesley's Leah Clement raced to the individual title with a time of 19:04.46. She narrowly edged out Vassar's Kelly Holmes by five tenths of a second. A total of 102 runners took part in the event, which was hosted by Bryn Mawr.

Mount Holyoke is slated to compete in the NEWMAC Championship on Sunday, October 30 in Boston, Mass. The event will take place at Franklin Park beginning at 11:00 a.m.
