Cordeiro Leads Cross Country to Fourth Place Showing at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (Sept. 24, 2011) – Led by Felicia Cordeiro, the Mount Holyoke cross country team secured fourth place at the Wesleyan University Invitational today . The senior took home sixth place overall with her time of 19:59.60.

Mount Holyoke also received a boost from sophomore Lucia Garcia, who crossed the line in 20:53.30 to earn 24th place. She finished just in front of junior Phoebe Tengdin (30th – 21:31.70), junior Julia Merton (31st – 21:34.70), senior Hannah DiCocco (32nd – 21:35.30) and junior Dianne Laguerta (33rd – 21:41.90).

Wesleyan dominated the field with a score of 25. The hosts were followed by Connecticut College (59), St, Joseph's College (76), Mount Holyoke (87), Pace University (139) and Mitchell College (181).

A total of 81 runners took part in the race. Junior Christine Cristobal completed the 5,000-meter course in 19:28.10 to collect first place individually.

Mount Holyoke will be off until Saturday October 8, when it competes in the New England Championship at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The race is slated to get underway at 12:30 p.m.
