NEW YORK -- Mount Holyoke College junior Maddy Sewell placed 12th among 24 competitors in 3-meter diving Friday afternoon on the opening day of the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Diving Championships, held at Palladium Athleic Facility at New York University.

Sewell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored 379.10 points on 11 dives to squeeze in between 11th-place Sadie Smith of Bowdoin (380.65) and 13th-place Emma Casey of Williams (378.55).

The top four finishers in each of the two diving events automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships, with qualifications beyond the top four possible to reach a total of eight divers that will qualify from the region.

The two-time 2023 All-NEWMAC honoree will go again on the 1-meter board Saturday at 2:30pm. (VIDEO)
