Swimming and diving tops Simmons on Senior Day

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team celebrated senior day and its final home meet of the season with a 152-98 dual-meet victory over Simmons University on Saturday at MHC Natatorium.

The Lyons led off the meet by winning both first and second places in the 200-yard medley relay, in times of 1:57.71 and 2:00.48. Mount Holyoke's A team comprised senior Anais Magner (Whakatane, New Zealand), sophomore Megan Schneider (Newton, Mass.), first-year Carolina Loayza (Fort Myers, Fla.), and first-year Ruth Bailey (Edison, N.J.); the B team comprised junior Adji Diouf (Arlington, Va.), sophomore Lauren Madsen (Ghent, N.Y.), junior Seran Goudsouzian (Hellertown, Pa.) and first-year Sophie Allen (Lopez Island, Wash.).

Mount Holyoke also had the best time in the other relay race, the 200-yard freestyle, as Bailey, Allen, sophomore Hannah Heierhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) and Diouf finished in 1:47.40.

Mount Holyoke's other event winners included:

  • Junior diver Maddy Sewell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) competed unopposed and scored 238.40 points on the 1-meter board and a career-high 264.90 points on the 3-meter platform.
  • Junior Evelyn Bushway (Schenectady, N.Y.) won both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:32.71) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:33.77).
  • Loayza won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:08.52 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.10.
  • Magner won the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.08).
  • Schneider won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.36).
  • Heierhoff won the 200-yard butterfly (2:25.99).

Honored for Senior Day by the team were Magner, Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas), Jess Mohr (Kennett Square, Pa.), and Erin Schrama (Providence, R.I.).

Mount Holyoke will next compete at Western New England University Friday at 6pm.
