Lyons break team record in the 200 medley relay on Day 3 of NEWMACs

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team's 200-yard medley relay record fell to highlight a strong third day of the NEWMAC Championships for the Lyons Saturday night at WPI.

Mount Holyoke has 172 team points through three days, the eighth-most by a margin of 51 points over ninth-place Clark University, with seventh-place Babson leading the Lyons by 43 points. The fourth and final day of NEWMACs takes place with 10am and 6pm sessions on Sunday at WPI.

With junior Adji Diouf (Arlington, Va.) swimming the leadoff backstroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay, followed by junior Evelyn Bushway (Schenectady, N.Y.) in the breaststroke, first-year Carolina Loayza (Fort Myers, Fla.) in the butterfly and sophomore Megan Schneider (Newton, Mass.) in the freestyle anchor leg, the Lyons took eighth place in the event with a time of 1:50.20. The former team record time of 1:50.25 was recorded in 2015 by Anne Kuenning '17, Maya Lazarovich '15, Katie Tyler '17, and Emily Craig '17.

Other Mount Holyoke Day 3 highlights included:

  • Loayza also placed 11th in the 100-yard butterfly, recording a tiem of 59.15 seconds in the B Final after a preliminary time of 59.76 seconds.
  • Bushway also placed 14th in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:43.92
  • Sophomore Hannah Heierhoff (Wiesbaden, Germany) placed 15th in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.31, and 30th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.10).
  • Schneider finished 27th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.20).
  • Diouf placed 28th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.35).
