Ranaweera Advances at CSA Individual Nationals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Action at the 2014 CSA Individual National Championships continued on Saturday with two Mount Holyoke College student-athletes among the participants. Senior captain Randima Ranaweera won her quarterfinal match and will now appear in the Second Round Consolation semifinals of the Holleran Division.

Ranaweera advanced into the quarterfinals after her opponent in the Second Round Consolation opener was forced to withdraw due to injury. She then took on Brown University's Mira Shakarshy and posted a 3-0 (15-13, 11-9, 11-6) victory.

MHC's captain will now face Colette Sultana from Columbia University in the Consolation semifinals on Sunday at 9:45am.

Also competing for the Lyons was sophomore Sherouk Khefagy, who took on Columbia's Maya Patel in the consolation opener. After falling 11-5 in the opening game, Khefagy battled back to steal an 11-9 victory. Despite the momentum, Patel rebounded and claimed the final frames 11-7, 11-7 to take the 3-1 (11-5, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7) win.
