PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The 2014 CSA Individual National Championships got underway on Friday morning and two Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were in action. Both advanced past their opening games before facing tough competition in the Round of 32. Among the participants include senior captain Randima Ranaweera and sophomore Sherouk Khefagy.

Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka) earned a bye into the Round of 32 after her scheduled opponent had to withdraw. She then faced St. Lawrence's Jillian Baker and shouldered a tough 3-2 loss. Ranaweera fell in the opening set by a 12-10 margin, but rebounded for victories of 11-7, 11-5 to take the lead.

Baker proved to be too much to handle as she battled back for wins of 12-10 and 11-7 to take the overall win. Ranaweera now moves into the Second Round Consolation where she will face Trinity's Chanel Erasmus. That match will take place on Saturday at 9:40am.

Khefagy (Cairo, Egypt) opened the tournament with a match against Hamilton's Hilary Gray. She gutted out a 9-11, 12-14, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 victory to win 3-2. In the next round, Khefagy faced Princeton's Alexandra Toth.

Despite battling back to tie the match, Toth prevailed, taking it by a 3-1 (2-11, 12-10, 9-11, 4-11) margin. Khefagy also advances to the Second Round Consolation where she will take on Columbia's Maya Patel. That match will get underway at 10:20am on Saturday.
