Squash Concludes Play at Division III Nationals

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Powered by several outstanding performances, the Mount Holyoke College squash team had strong success at this year's Division III National Championships. Held a Bowdoin College, the tournament saw both Lyons players advance to championship matches, including senior captain Randima Ranaweera, who was runner-up in the A draw.

Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka) opened Sunday's action with an 11-5, 11-8, 13-11 victory over Middlebury's Charlotte Dewey in the A draw semifinals. Propelled into the championship match, she faced a familiar foe in Middlebury's Abby Jenkins, whom she lost to in early January. Despite a strong effort in the later sets, Ranaweera was unable to get past the Panthers' senior once again, falling 5-11, 8-11, 9-11.

Overall, Ranaweera finished as the runner-up, posting a record of 4-1 on the weekend.

In the B draw consolation round, junior Samantha Rosado (Meriden, Conn.) squared off against Tufts' Anne Bellinger in the championship match. Rosado opened with victories in each of the first two sets before Bellinger battled back for an 11-7 win in the third. But it was Rosado with the momentum to grab the victory, winning the fourth set by an 11-8 margin for the 3-1 (11-5, 11-1, 7-11, 11-8) victory.

Rosado also had an outstanding weekend at the Division III Nationals, sporting a 3-1 mark.

The entire Lyons team returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Connecticut College at 7pm. The match also marks Senior Night for Mount Holyoke.
