#23 Squash Defeated by #21 Wesleyan in CSA Consolation Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. – Action at the CSA National Championships concluded on Sunday for the Mount Holyoke College as the Lyons fell by a 6-3 margin to Wesleyan University in the consolation final of the Walker Cup (C draw). With the win, the #21 Cardinals improve to 11-12, while the #23 Lyons slip to 10-12.

MHC posted victories in the first, second and seventh draws. Leading the way was senior captain Randima Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School), who captured a 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 12-10) victory against Mary Foster at the top of the ladder. In the second position, sophomore Sherouk Khefagy (Cairo, Egypt/International School of Choueifat) cruised to a 3-0 (11-9, 11-2, 11-2) win against Annie Maxwell.

In the seventh position, first year Sanjna Merchant (Mumbai, India/Jai Hind College) won a hard-fought 3-1 (11-9, 9-11, 13-11, 11-7) match against Miranda Linsky. The Lyons also saw a strong effort from senior Katrina Intal (Bronx, N.Y./St. Paul's School), who fell by a 3-2 (11-9, 12-14, 11-8, 4-11, 11-9) margin to Liza Bayless in the fourth spot.

Several members of the Lyons squad return to action next weekend when they compete at the CSA Individual National Championships, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Action begins on Friday and runs through Sunday.
