SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Middlebury College squash team dominated from the top-to-bottom of the ladder on Saturday, posting a 9-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College at the MHC Squash Courts. With the victory, the Panthers have now won four straight and improve to 4-1 overall. The homestanding Lyons saw their four-game win streak halted and are now 5-3 on the season.

Middlebury jumped out of the gate quickly, grabbing decisive wins in the #4, #6 and #8 match for a 3-0 lead. Sophomore Tiffany Hau (Villanova, Pa./Baldwin) defeated senior Elyse Taylor (Mission, Texas/Pomfret School (Conn.)), 3-0 (11-2, 11-2, 11-4) in the fourth position, while Zoe Carey (Dedham, Mass./Noble & Greenough) downed MHC's Sanjna Merchant (Mumbai, India/Jai Hind College), 3-0 (11-1, 11-5, 11-2) in the sixth postion.

Junior Katie Dewey (Panton, Vt./Deerfield (Mass.)) earned the first victory of the afternoon for Middlebury with a 3-0 (11-3, 11-1, 11-3) win over MHC sophomore Catherine Ryan (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) in the eighth position.

In the second position, Mount Holyoke senior Katrina Intal (Bronx, N.Y./St. Paul's School) battled from a 2-0 deficit to win the third game, but ultimately fell, 3-1 (8-11, 6-11, 13-11, 5-11) to junior Charlotte Dewey (Greenwich, Conn./Deerfield (Mass.).

The Panthers continued to dominate as the action shifted to the other half of the ladder. Junior Anne Wymard (Radnor, Pa./Hotchkiss (Conn.) recorded a 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-6) win over MHC junior Samantha Rosado (Meriden, Conn./F.T. Maloney) in the third position, while sophomore Saskia Pownall-Gray (Weston, Conn./St. George's) took down Lyons' first year Allison Shilling (New Canaan, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall), 3-0 (11-2, 11-2, 11-6) in the fifth position.

Mount Holyoke looked to salvage a point late in the match as Middlebury senior captain Abby Jenkins (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) took on Lyons' senior captain Randima Ranaweera (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School).

Ranaweera jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the match, battling to a 15-13 opening victory, but Jenkins proved too much as the Middlebury number one pulled out wins of 11-7, 11-6, 11-4 to take the match by a 3-1 margin.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on January 17 when it hosts the Pioneer Valley Invitational. The Lyons open action at 1pm against Hamilton. Middlebury is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Amherst at 4pm.
