Squash Drops 8-1 Decision at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Despite a victory in the third position from sophomore Sherouk Khefagy, the Mount Holyoke College squash team could not battle back, falling 8-1 at Brown University on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bears, who are ranked ninth in the latest CSA National Poll, move to 1-0. The Lyons, who are 21st in the nation, slip to 1-2 on the young season.

Khefagy posted a 3-0 (11-8, 11-4, 11-4) win against Hannah Hay-Smith to improve to 3-0 on the season. Senior captain Randima Ranaweera played a tough game against Sarah Domenick, winning the first game by a 11-1 margin. Domenick battled back to win 11-6, but Ranaweera rebounded with a 12-10 victory. Despite the momentum, Domenick captured victory in the fourth (11-4) and fifth (11-3) sets for the 3-2 win.

Senior captain Shaheen Madraswala also had a tough-fought match in the second position, falling by a 3-1 margin to Dori Rahbar. Madraswala won the first game by an 11-8 score, but fell 11-9, 11-3 and 11-4 in the final games to Rahbar.

The remainder of the ladder for the Lyons fought hard, including senior Katrina Intal in the fourth position, who lost 11-9 in a close margin to open against Emily Richmond. She was unable to battle back as Richmond went on to win 11-5, 11-2.

Mount Holyoke is now idle until December 7 when it competes at the Wesleyan Round Robin. The Lyons take on William Smith at 2pm and then face Wellesley at 5pm. MHC then faces Smith (9:30am) and the host Cardinals (11:30am) on December 8.
