With fifth year head coach Miriam Esber at the helm, the Mount Holyoke lacrosse team posted an overall record of 6-8 in 2012.  The Lyons narrowly missed out on the NEWMAC Tournament for the second year in a row.

Mount Holyoke exploded out of the gate, posting three consecutive victories to start the year. After holding on for a 15-12 triumph over Westfield State University, the Lyons topped Roger Williams University 15-14 thanks to first year Kirsten Kilburn's winner with 17 seconds remaining in regulation. Five days later, they handed Western New England University a 17-14 setback to move to 3-0. It was their first victory over the Golden Bears since the 2006 season.

Kilburn recorded three goals or more in all three contests and was named NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week on March 19.

Mount Holyoke split a pair of matches during their spring break trip in Colorado Springs. After falling 9-8 to Colorado College, the Lyons rebounded with a 15-13 triumph over Carthage College.

They went on to post two more wins over the final month of the season. In late March, they rolled to a 17-11 triumph over NEWMAC rival MIT.  Three weeks later, they pulled out a dramatic 12-11 victory over Bridgewater State University. This time, senior midfielder Hilary Bombard provided the heroics with her winner 2:51 into overtime.

Kilburn made an immediate impact with her outstanding production from the midfield. In addition to pouring in 31 goals, she also collected 51 draw controls, 13 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. The first year finished with six hat tricks and two game-winning goals. She was joined on the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team by sophomore Annabel Barrett, who spearheaded Mount Holyoke's defense with 43 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers.

Junior attacker Molly Macdonald enjoyed a breakout year on the offensive end of the Lyons, recording eight hat tricks en route to 37 goals. Meanwhile, sophomore attacker Liz Randolph added 17 goals, nine assists and 47 draw controls. Bombard, sophomore Brianne Phelan and senior Alex Crean also enjoyed solid offensive years.

Juniors Jamie Theophilos and Liz Malenfant split time between the pipes for the Lyons, totaling 132 saves.
