Lacrosse Earns IWLCA Academic Recognition

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (August 24, 2012) – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has announced the Division III Academic Squads and Mount Holyoke College was named one of the 61 institutions to earn the distinction for the 2012 season. To be recognized, teams must have a collective grade point average of 3.0 or greater.

Individually, the Lyons had two student-athletes included in the 2012 Academic Honor Roll. They were senior midfielder Hilary Bombard and junior goaltender Jamie Theophilos. This was the second straight IWLCA Honor Roll selection for Bombard.

Each individual honoree was nominated by their schools and have achieved at least junior status academically.

The Lyons, who posted a 6-8 record during the 2012 campaign under the direction of head coach Miriam Esber, earned the team honor for the fourth straight season after posting a grade point average of 3.25.

Fifteen of Mount Holyoke's 18 student-athletes achieved a 3.00 GPA or better last season, while four were named to Academic All-Conference by the NEWMAC, including Bombard and Theophilos.
