  • Lacrosse Earns IWLCA Academic Recognition

    The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) has announced the Division III Academic Squads and Mount Holyoke College was named one of the 61 institutions to earn the distinction for the 2012 season. To be recognized, teams must have a collective grade point average of 3.0 or greater.

    With fifth year head coach Miriam Esber at the helm, the Mount Holyoke lacrosse team posted an overall record of 6-8 in 2012. The Lyons narrowly missed out on the NEWMAC Tournament for the second year in a row.

    The NEWMAC recently announced its 2012 Spring Academic All-Conference Teams. Nineteen Mount Holyoke student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of track and field, lacrosse an crew.
  • Kilburn and Barrett Earn NEWMAC Lacrosse All-Conference Honors

    Sophomore Annabel Barrett and first year Kirsten Kilburn were named to the NEWMAC Lacrosse All-Conference Second Team after leading Mount Holyoke to six wins in 2012. As a team, the Lyons claimed the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award for the third time in program history.
  • Lacrosse Comes Up Just Short in Season Finale at Springfield

    Mount Holyoke closed out its 2012 campaign with a 14-8 loss to NEWMAC foe Springfield this afternoon at Stagg Field. Midfielders Kirsten Kilburn and Naomi Miller scored two goals apiece for the Lyons, who wrapped up their season with an overall record of 6-8 and a league mark of 1-5.
  • Bombard’s Heroics Boost Lacrosse Past Bridgewater State in Overtime

    Senior midfielder Hilary Bombard found the back of the net 2:51 into overtime to lift Mount Holyoke to a dramatic 12-11 triumph over Bridgewater State this evening at Swenson Field. It was her fourth goal of the night.
  • Babson Tops Lacrosse to Remain Unbeaten in League Play

    Mount Holyoke suffered a 21-7 setback to NEWMAC foe Babson this afternoon despite three goals from junior attacker Molly Macdonald. Prior to the game, a Senior Day ceremony took place to honor Hilary Bombard, Alex Crean, Jacinta Edebeli, Elizabeth Holsing and Jeanmarie Petersen.

    Mount Holyoke puts the finishing touches on its home slate with a NEWMAC contest against Babson Saturday afternoon (12:00 p.m.) at the Turf Field. After edging the Beavers 14-13 in the opening round of the 2003 NEWMAC Tournament, the Lyons have fallen in each of the previous eight meetings between the schools.

    Mount Holyoke fell 13-9 to longtime rival Smith this evening in NEWMAC action at the Turf Field. Sophomore attacker Liz Randolph collected three goals and one assist for the Lyons, who entered the contest with three straight wins over the Pioneers. It was her first hat trick of the year and sixth of her career.

    Mount Holyoke picked up an impressive 17-11 triumph over NEWMAC foe MIT this afternoon at Jack Barry Field. After falling behind 10-6 with just under three minutes remaining in the first half, the Lyons exploded for 11 unanswered goals and never looked back. Junior attacker Molly Macdonald stayed hot with five more goals.
  • Lacrosse Comes Up Just Short in Comeback Bid at Eastern Connecticut

    Mount Holyoke fell 12-9 to Eastern Connecticut this afternoon despite a furious comeback in the latter stages of the second half. The Lyons reeled off four straight goals to slice the deficit to 10-8 with 7:25 remaining in regulation, but Eastern Connecticut responded with two unanswered tallies and never looked back.
  • Macdonald Picks Up Lyon the Week Honors

    Junior Molly Macdonald has earned the Lyon of the Week Award for the week of March 19-25 after leading the lacrosse team to a 15-13 triumph over Carthage in Colorado Springs on Wednesday. In two games, the attacker piled up eight goals on just 11 shots.

    Mount Holyoke fell 15-8 to Wellesley despite three goals from junior attacker Molly Macdonald this afternoon at the Turf Field. It was the NEWMAC opener for both squads. The Lyons also received a boost from first year midfielder Kirsten Kilburn, who posted two goals and five draw controls.

Midfielder Meredith Roy registered a hat trick to set the tone for the Blue. Mount Holyoke rolled to a 19-10 triumph when the teams faced off in 2010.

    Junior attacker Molly Macdonald poured in a career-high five goals to lead Mount Holyoke to a 15-13 triumph over Carthage this afternoon at Stewart Field. With the win, the Lyons improved to 4-1 on the year and concluded their spring break trip with a 1-1 mark.

    First year Kirsten Kilburn has been named NEWMAC Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the week of March 12-18. In addition to racking up seven goals, the midfielder collected eight draw controls, six ground balls and five caused turnover in a 1-1 week for the Lyons.

    Mount Holyoke suffered a heartbreaking 9-8 overtime setback to Colorado College this afternoon at Stewart Field despite three goals apiece from midfielders Kirsten Kilburn and Hilary Bombard. In addition to recording her eighth career hat trick, Bombard also piled up a career-best eight ground balls for the Lyons, who entered the contest with a perfect 3-0 mark.

The Lyons have come out on top in each of their previous three contests against the Owls. Last year, they prevailed 12-11 thanks to a dramatic goal by Liz Randolph 20 seconds into double overtime. It was her fourth tally of the night.
