  • 2013-14 Rowing Year In Review

    It was a season of excitement and bittersweet moments for the Mount Holyoke rowing team in 2013-14. From a runner-up showing at Seven Sisters, back-to-back wins by the varsity eight, medalist honors for the novice eight and the final race of 22-year head coach Jeanne Friedman’s career.
  • Hannah Arbach Named ECAC/NIRC All-Star

    The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the National Invitational Rowing Championship (NIRC) Stewards recently announced the 2013-14 All-ECAC NIRC teams. A total of 42 student-athletes were chosen from 27 institutions, including Mount Holyoke College’s Hannah Arbach. This is the second straight season of All-ECAC NIRC honors for Arbach.

    A solid fall gave way to an outstanding spring for the Mount Holyoke crew team. In addition to several varsity eight victories, the novice eight had a spectacular spring, including Gold at NEWMAC's, Bronze at the NECR and Silver at the ECAC's.
  • Nine from Crew Earn Top Academic Honors

    The Eastern College Athletic Conference National Invitational Rowing Championship Board of Stewards has released its selections for the 2013 Stewards' All-Academic Team and nine Mount Holyoke College student-athletes have been named. A total of 355 student-athletes from 27 institutions earned the distinction for the 2013-14 academic year.
  • Heather Putnam Named Head Crew Coach

    Mount Holyoke College Director of Athletics Lori Hendricks has announced the hiring of Heather Putnam as the head coach of the crew program and lecturer in physical education. Putnam, who has been the associate head coach of the crew team at Rutgers University for the past six years, takes over the Lyons program following the retirement of 22-year head coach Jeanne Friedman.
  • Novice Eight Earns Silver Medal Honors in season-finale NICR

    It was a solid day of action on the water as the Mount Holyoke College crew team concluded its 2013-14 campaign at the ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond. The day was highlighted by a number of strong performances, including the Novice Eight, which finished second overall in the Grand Finals.

  • Crew Finishes Fifth at NEWMAC Championships

    For the fourth straight year, Wellesley's Varsity Eight captured the NEWMAC Rowing Championship on Lake Quinsigamond. The Blue beat second place WPI in collecting their fifth overall crown at the 2014 league championship on Saturday morning. MHC's Varsity Eight was fifth overall, while the Novice Eight claimed victory.
  • Crew Earns NEWMAC Boat of the Week Honors

    The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) recently announced its weekly award winners in rowing and the Mount Holyoke College varsity eight boat has been tabbed for Boat of the Week recognition. The Lyons boat posted victories on both Saturday and Sunday during competition on Lake Quinsigamond.
  • Crew Dominates Sunday Racing on Lake Quinsigamond

    Outstanding results prevailed once again for the Mount Holyoke College crew team, as it posted two wins and two runner-up finishes on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday. The Lyons first varsity eight boat had an outstanding effort, winning its race over five other boats, including conference opponents Simmons and Clark.

    It was a fabulous day on the water for the Mount Holyoke College crew team as three different boats claimed victory in races on Lake Quinsigamond. Leading the way was the first varsity eight boat, which outpaced both the University of Vermont and Clark University for the win.

    It’s no secret that being a varsity athlete as well as a student is difficult no matter which division you are in. Rowers, in particular, run on their own distinctive clocks different from anyone else’s. They often wake up when other students are just going to bed and dedicate their fall and spring seasons to racing as they are a split-season sport.
  • Crew Finishes Well at Tufts

    The Mount Holyoke College crew team took to the water on Sunday, competing in races on the Malden River, site of home action for Tufts University. The Lyons boats saw solid action during the morning races, paced by the varsity eight, which finished third overall, winning its Petite Final.
  • Crew Opens Spring Season at Amherst 4's Regatta

    The Mount Holyoke College crew team was back in the water for the first time this spring on Saturday, with three boats competing in the Amherst 4’s Regatta, hosted by Amherst College. The Lyons 1V boat finished second overall in its race to pace the effort. All events were a floating start.

  • Crew Finishes 2nd at 2013 Seven Sisters Regatta

    Powered by first place finishes from both novice boats, the Mount Holyoke College crew team placed second among five teams at this year's Seven Sisters Regatta, hosted by Bryn Mawr College. The Lyons, who amassed 30 points on the day, finished just two points behind first-place Wellesley.
  • Crew Opens 2013-14 Season at Quinsigamond Snake Regatta

    The Mount Holyoke crew team opened its 2013-14 season in fine fashion on Saturday, competing at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta, hosted by WPI, on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester. The Lyons had five boats in action at the event, including three that finished in the top-10 of their respective races. Among the top performances was the first varsity eight and the first novice eight, which finished seventh and fourth, respectively.
