HADLEY, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College crew team was back in the water for the first time this spring on Saturday, with three boats competing in the Amherst 4's Regatta, hosted by Amherst College. The Lyons 1V boat finished second overall in its race to pace the effort. All events were a floating start.
The 1V boat, which featured coxswain Samantha Marsden and rowers Hannah Arbach, Moira Brown, Sarah Ramirez and Alexis Andrus, posted a time of 6:59. The group was second only to Amherst, which finished in a time of 6:43 in the 1800m race.
MHC's 2V boat, which included coxswain Kirsten Therrien and rowers Victoria Dawes, Claire Fahrner, Rebecca Matwijkow and Leah Willingham, powered its way to victory in its race with a time of 7:09.
In the Novice 4 race, which had a 1700m distance, MHC was second with a time of 6:46. The boat featured coxswain Leela Woody and rowers Briana Chace, Laura Murphy, Molly Lapointe and Azulina Green.
Mount Holyoke returns to the water next Sunday when it travels to Medford, Mass., to compete at Tufts.
