WORCESTER, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College crew team competed in the New England Rowing Championships today at Lake Quinsigamond. The day was highlighted by a number of strong performances, including the Novice Eight, which finished third overall in the Grand Finals.
The Novice Eight boat, which has posted immense success in the spring season, added to their impressive year as they finished third in the Grand Final with a time of 7:30.597. The boat was third behind Trinity (7:23.015) and Williams (7:29.025). The Lyons finished second in their opening heat race with a time of 7:29.749, finishing second only to Trinity.
Mount Holyoke's varsity eight boat took home third place in the Third Level Final of its division. The Lyons posted a time of 7:30.474, which was good for 15th place overall. Prior to the final, they posted a fifth place time of 7:44.871 in their preliminary heat.
In the second varsity eight division, Mount Holyoke finished sixth overall in the Petite Final with a time of 7:53.316. The boat placed sixth in their preliminary race earlier in the day with a time of 8:13.424.
The Novice Four boat also had a solid day, finishing second in its Petite Final with a time of 9:13.020. The group posted a fourth place finish in their earlier heat with a time of 8:46.790.
The Lyons head back to Lake Quinsigamond next weekend when they take part in the 2014 ECAC Championships. Action gets underway on Sunday.
