WORCESTER, Mass. – It was a solid day of action on the water as the Mount Holyoke College crew team concluded its 2013-14 campaign at the ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Regatta on Lake Quinsigamond. The day was highlighted by a number of strong performances, including the Novice Eight, which finished second overall in the Grand Finals.
The Novice Eight boat, which was coming off a bronze medal finish at last weekend's New England Championships, continued its outstanding season as they earned silver medal honors with a second-place finish in the Grand Final. The Lyons posted a time of 7:25.734, finishing just behind Trinity, which recorded a time of 7:22.551.
MHC was stellar to open the day, qualifying for the Grand Finals after winning their opening heat with a mark of 7:17.770. Among the competition that the Lyons battled past, included Wesleyan, Williams, William Smith, St. Lawrence, Smith and Clark.
Mount Holyoke's varsity eight boat took home third place in the Third Level Final of its division. The Lyons posted a time of 7:19.370, which was good for 15th place overall. After battling nose to nose with Smith and Simmons, the Lyons pulled away to grab third overall, finishing just behind Coast Guard and the University of New Hampshire and ahead of Smith, Simmons and Clark. Prior to the final, they posted a sixth place time of 7:17.804 in their preliminary heat.
In the second varsity eight division, Mount Holyoke finished third in the Third Final with a time of 7:55.340.The boat placed fifth in their preliminary race earlier in the day with a time of 7:51.542.
