WORCESTER, Mass. (May 11, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College crew team closed out its 2011-12 season at the ECAC National Invitational Collegiate Regatta today. A total of 19 programs from around the region participated in the event on Lake Quinsigamond.
Williams College defended its title with a score of 77. The Ephs were followed by Ithaca College (63) and Bates College (57) in the top three. Rounding out the top five were Wellesley College (54) and the University of New Hampshire (52). The Lyons totaled 21 points on the day.
Mount Holyoke's varsity eight boat finished in 15th place overall. The Lyons started the day with a sixth place showing in their preliminary heat (7:05.454). They then nabbed third place in the Third Level Final (7:15.551) of their division, crossing the line in front of the Rochester Institute of Technology, Colby College, Skidmore College and Connecticut College. Simmons College (7:06.548) and Tufts University (7:10.757) finished first and second in the race.
After taking fourth place in its initial heat (7:41.452), Mount Holyoke's novice eight boat grabbed second place (7:42.052) in the Petite Final of its division. The Lyons finished eighth overall.
