Crew Closes Out Weekend at Lake Quinsigamond

WORCESTER, Mass. (Apr. 15, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College crew team closed out its weekend with another solid day of racing on Lake Quinsigamond today. A total of four boats took to the water for the Lyons, who were joined by by Simmons College, Union College, Franklin and Marshall College, Clark University and the University of Massachusetts Lowell at the competition.

Mount Holyoke's first varsity eight boat recorded a time of 7:37.2 to earn third place in its race. Simmons crossed the line 7:15.1 to take top honors, while Franklin and Marshall secured second. The Lyons finished in front of Union, UMass Lowell and Clark.

In the second varsity eight race, Mount Holyoke took second place with a time of 8:02.7. Franklin and Marshall (8:31.3) and Union (8:44.8) occupied the third and fourth slots. Meanwhile, Simmons came out on top by just over 17 seconds.

Mount Holyoke's top performance of the day came from its first novice eight boat, which secured top honors in the third varsity eight race with a time of 8:09.0. The Lyons finished well ahead of Simmons (8:40.0) and Union (9:02.1).

UMass Lowell grabbed first place in the novice four race with a time of 8:44.6. Mount Holyoke completed the course in 9:25.8, finishing ahead of a Clark entrant made up of varsity rowers.

The Lyons are slated to take part in the NEWMAC Championships at Lake Quinsigamond next Saturday.
