Sonnie Terrell Sonnie Terrell was named the head coach of the Mount Holyoke volleyball program in 2008.

During the 2016 season, Terrell helped the Lyons to victories against University of St. Joseph, MCLA, Elms, Albertus Maguns and Westfield State. Mount Holyoke was paced by strong efforts from senior captain and setter Natalie Lyon, who ranked seventh overall in the NEWMAC in service aces per set (0.49), while first year middle hitter Sasha Simine was fifth among the conference's best in hitting percentage (.307) and eighth in blocks per set (0.77).

Terrell guided the Lyons to wins over Elms, the University of St. Joseph, Medgar Evers, Anna Maria, UMass-Dartmouth, Worcester State and Norwich during the 2015 campaign. The Lyons saw two players among the NEWMAC leaders in several categories, including junior setter Natalie Lyon, who was sixth in assists per set (6.33). First year middle hitter Jamesa Allen ranked third in the NEWMAC in block solo (36).

2014 saw the Lyons record victories over the University of St. Joseph, MCLA, Elms and area-rival Smith. MHC was paced by junior outside hitter Emma Sweeting, who was second in the NEWMAC in kills per set (3.63) and third in total attacks (961).

In 2013, Terrell's Lyons posted victories over the University of St. Joseph, Elms College and Norwich University. Two players garnered All-Tournament honors at the Seven Sisters Championship, while one was an All-Tournament selection at the Hall of Fame Induction Invitational. Additionally, five student-athletes were selected to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference squad.

During the 2011 season, Terrell guided the Lyons to a 9-16 mark. The squad exploded out of the gate, winning seven of their first 11 matches. Additionally, MHC had an outstanding effort at the Seven Sisters Championship and went on to defeat longtime rival Smith College in a 3-2 thriller. It was the Lyons first victory over the Pioneers since the 2001 season.

Prior to joining the Lyons staff, Terrell enjoyed a two-year stint (2006-08) as an assistant coach at Smith College. While at Smith, she directed the non-traditional season, developed offensive and defensive strategies, designed and directed practices, assisted in recruiting, developed and implemented an off-season training and conditioning program and developed scouting reports on opponents. Terrell recently graduated from Smith with a Master of Science Degree in Exercise and Sport Studies with an emphasis in women’s coaching.

From 2002-2006, Terrell served as an assistant coach on both the volleyball and softball staffs at Hanover College (Ind.). In 2005, she was the interim head coach for the softball program at the College.

A standout student-athlete at Franklin College (Ind.), Terrell was a four-year member (1998-2001) of the volleyball program, serving as team captain as a senior. In 2002, she was named the school’s David C. Naile Memorial Award winner for outstanding leadership and mental attitude as a female, senior athlete. She also participated in softball as a first year (2000). Terrell graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education and Physical Education from Franklin in 2002.
